Public Safety

Public Safety is of primary importance. This includes law enforcement and emergency responders.

City Charter

Those things specifically identified in our Charter (parks, library, etc) must be funded by law.

Voters

When the Voters tell us via the ballot box, we are lawfully bound to their direction. 

Everything Else

Everything else is in the realm of our civil society working together to meet our common needs. Tell us how to get government out of the way or to facilitate collaboration.

"back to basics"

There are certain things we need our city government to do, such as provide for the rule of law.  There are other things our founders proscribed our city government do, such as parks and libraries.  And the will of the voters has prescribed additional things the voters decided our city government should do.

 

Everything else should be left to the people to do, achieving local solutions to local problems through local action.  Your city government may help bring people and groups together, and your city government may help remove barriers, but your city government does not know better than you know yourself and should not impose on you from a dubiously claimed position of moral authority.
